İNGİLİZCE'DE EN SIK KULLANILAN EDATLAR: PREPOSITIONS

Edatlar (Prepositions) İngilizce'de nesnelerden önce gelerek fiil ve özne/nesne arasında bağlantı kurmaya yarayan kelimelerdir. Örneğin Türkçe'deki ismin -de hali (bulunma), -den hali (ayrılma), -i hali, -e hali (yönelme) gibi durumlar İngilizce'de (Prepositions) denilen edatlarla sağlanır. Belli başlı edatlar nelerdir?

ABOUT (hakkında, yaklaşık)

We talked about you. (Senin hakkında konuştuk.)

There are about ten million people living in Istanbul. (Istanbul'da yaşayan yaklaşık on milyon insan var.)

AFTER (-den sonra, ardından)

After you (senden sonra)

After ten o'clock (saat ondan sonra)

AT (-de/da, -e/a)

At two o'clock (saat ikide)

Look at me (bana bak.)

At cinema (sinemada)

BEFORE (-den önce)

Before him (Ondan önce)

Before three o'clock (saat üçten önce)

BETWEEN (arasında)

Between you and him (senin ve onun arasında)

Between February and May (Şubat ve Mayıs arasında)

FROM (-den/dan)

From Istanbul (İstanbul'dan)

IN (-de/da, -in içinde)

In Istanbul (İstanbul'da)

In the house (evde)

INTO (-in içine doğru, -e doğru)

Caome into house (eve gir)

OF (-ın/in)

the front of the house (evin önü)

ON (-in üzerinde)

The cat is on the table. (Kedi masanın üstündedir.)

OVER (üzerinde- dokunma yok)

The plane is over the city. (Uçak şehrin üzerinde.)

TO (-e/a, -e doğru)

To Istanbul (İstanbul'a)

I am going to Istanbul. (Ben İstanbul'a gidiyorum.)

UNDER (-in altında)

He is under the tree. (O, ağacın altında)

WITH (ile)

Come with me. (Benimle gel)

Go with him. (Onunla git)

WITHOUT (-siz, -sız)

Without you (sensiz)

SINGULAR AND PLURAL

İngilizce'de isimler (nouns), countable ve uncountable diye ikiye ayrılır. Yani sayılabilir ve sayılamaz isimler... Sayılabilir isimler singular (tekil) ve plural (çoğul) halde kullanılabilir. Ancak sayılamaz isimler, daima yalın halde tekil olarak kullanılmalıdır.

İngilizce'de sayılabilir isimler, sonuna aldıkları -s ve -es ekleriyle çoğul olurlar.

1) Sonu "o" ile biten isimler (-es) alır: potato - potatoes

2) Sonu "x" ile biten isimler (-es) alır: fox - foxes

3) Sonu "s" ile biten isimler (-es) alır: glass - glasses

4) Sonu "f/fe" ile biten isimler (-ves) alır: wolf - wolves

5) Sonu "y" ile biten isimlerde bir önceki harf de sessiz ise "y" düşer ve (-ies) eki gelir: story - stories, city - cities gibi...

6) Sonu "ch/sh" ile biten isimler (-es) alır: dish - watches

7) Bunlar dışında kalan diğer isimler (-s) alır: books, kids, pecils gibi...

Ancak -s veya -es eki almayan istisnai durumlar da mevcuttur; bunlardan bazı örnekler:

man (adam) - men (adamlar)

woman (kadın) - women (kadınlar)

person (kişi) - people (insanlar)

tooth (diş) - teeth (dişler)

foot (ayak) - feet (ayaklar)

mouse (fare) - mice (fareler)

fish (balık) - fish (balıklar)

sheep (koyun) - sheep (koyunlar)

ox (öküz) - oxen (öküzler)

goose (kaz) - geese (kazlar)

this (bu) - these (bunlar)

that (şu) - those (şunlar)
