Alice in Wonderland is a 2010 fantasy adventure film directed by Tim Burton, written by Linda Woolverton, and starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, Michael Sheen and Stephen Fry and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is an extension of Lewis Carroll's novels Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. The film uses a technique of combining live action and animation.

In the film, Alice is now nineteen years old and accidentally returns to Underland (misheard by Alice and believed to be called Wonderland), a place she visited thirteen years previously. She is told that she is the only one who can slay the Jabberwocky, a dragon-like creature controlled by the Red Queen who terrorizes Underland's inhabitants. Burton said the original Wonderland story was always about a girl wandering around from one weird character to another and he never felt a connection emotionally, so he wanted to make it feel more like a story than a series of events. He does not see this as a sequel to previous films, nor as a re-imagining. It premiered in London at the Odeon Leicester Square on February 25, 2010, and was released in Australia on March 4, 2010, and the United States and the United Kingdom on March 5, 2010, through IMAX 3D and Disney Digital 3D, as well as in traditional theaters.

In addition to being Burton's highest grossing film, Alice in Wonderland spent three weeks as the #1 movie in the United States, is currently the highest grossing film of 2010, and currently ranks as the fifth highest-grossing film of all time. Despite its short theatrical-release window, it is also only the sixth film ever to cross the $1-billion mark in worldwide grosses, in addition to also being the first picture to do so without a PG-13 rating. It is also the second film produced and released by Walt Disney Pictures, as well as the only springtime release, to accomplish this feat

Angels & Demons is a 2000 bestselling mystery-thriller novel written by American author Dan Brown and published by Pocket Books. The novel introduces the character Robert Langdon, who is also the protagonist of Brown's subsequent 2003 novel, The Da Vinci Code, and 2009 novel, The Lost Symbol. It also shares many stylistic elements with its sequel, such as conspiracies of secret societies, a single-day time frame, and the Catholic Church. Ancient history, architecture, and symbolism are also heavily referenced throughout the book. A film adaptation was released on May 15, 2009, though it was set after the events of The Da Vinci Code film, which had been released in 2006.

It's 1974, and a man by the name of Marty Bronson (Jonathan Pryce) is narrating a story. The story is about himself as the owner of quaint hotel that is also ran by himself and his 2 children. The daughter (Abigail Droeger), at 12 years old is very serious minded and runs the front desk efficiently. And the son (Thomas Hoffman), at 10 years old, has a wondrous imagination that will take him anywhere. Little do the children know though is that the motel is in debt, and Marty is forced to sell to an English chap by the name of Barry Nottingham (Richard Griffiths). However, Marty will only sell to Barry under the agreement that his son run the place when he is of age.

Fast forward and we see the quaint hotel quadrupled in size and is no longer a family establishment but more for the rich and famous, and Marty's son Skeeter Bronson (Adam Sandler) is a hotel handyman. And when Nottingham announces plans to build a new hotel he appoints another man named Kendall (Guy Pearce) to become the manager.

After work, Skeeter visits his sister for it is his niece's birthday (whom he hasn't seen in 4 years). There his sister Wendy (Courteney Cox) informs him that the school that the children Patrick (Jonathan Morgan Heit) and Bobbi (Laura Ann Kesling) attend, that she herself is the principal at, is being closed down and that has to relocate to Arizona for a job and asks Skeeter if he could watch her kids. , Even though Skeeter doesn't know his niece and nephew very well, he agrees.

After the day shift babysitter Jill (Keri Russell) leaves, he settles them into bed and they ask him to read a story. After looking at the lame books that the children have, he refuses to read then and instead makes up his own story. Modeled around his own life, he tells the story of a medieval squire named "Sir Fixalot" and his rival "Sir Buttkiss". Throughout the story the kids make their own additions, such as the king giving Sir Fixalot a chance to prove himself. And that during the celebration, Patrick announces, "that it starts raining gumballs" and the story ends.

The following day, Skeeter is called to fix Nottingham's television and during the visit, he tells Skeeter the "secret" theme that he had announced for the hotela rock and roll theme much like that of the Hard Rock Hotel. When Skeeter points this out he is offered the opportunity to compete with Kendall "to prove himself" for a better theme. And while driving to his sisters house, Skeeter is suddenly greeted with a shower of gumballs raining down from above (which he does not see is caused by a crashed delivery truck). Skeeter concludes that the story had come true and quickly develops a plan to use it to his advantage.

For the next story, he elaborates a Western-theme in which he receives a free "Ferrari" horse from a Native American chief. The children do not corroborate the story, but have him save a damsel in distress from several criminals. They claim he should be rewarded with a kiss, only to have an angry dwarf kick him instead. That night, Skeeter goes out in search of his Ferrari and meets a Native American man who instead steals his wallet. Later, Violet who is hounded by paparazzi, is rescued by the passing Skeeter. Just as he is about to kiss her, he is kicked by an angry dwarf from a nearby fraternity.

From this point, he determines that it is only the changes made by the children that actually affect reality. The following night, Skeeter tries to sell the kids on the theme ideas contest, but they are more interested in romance and action in their stories. The next story begins with Skeeticus, a Greek gladiator who, after impressing the emperor and a stadium of onlookers, attracts the attention of the "fairest maiden". He and the maiden are to walk into a restaurant where all the girls who used to pick on him in high school are sitting at a table, they are to be so impressed by the maiden he is with, they start to nervously sing the "Hokey Pokey". After a meal they are to go for a walk on the beach where a large hairy man is to be washed up on shore that has trouble breathing, and after Skeeticus saves this man's life, a rainstorm sends him and the maiden into a magical cave which has Abraham Lincoln in it. Skeeter loses his patience with the story and upsets the children. Unable to get them to continue, the story ends.

The next day, Skeeter learns that Violet will not be meeting with him per the story design, but unexpectedly runs into Jill, who invites him to lunch. The girls from Skeeter's high school are at the restaurant, so Skeeter asks Jill to pretend to be his girlfriend. After the girls break into the "Hokey Pokey" and Skeeter casually saves the life of a man on the beach, a sudden rainstorm sends them under the dock and he realizes that he is falling in love with her. But the kiss he is about to receive is interrupted as he is reminded about the Abraham Lincoln part of the story as someone walks on the dock above them, and thinking that the real "Abe" is going to appear he ducks. Instead a penny falls through the dock.

For Skeeter and the kids' final night together, a space-themed story begins with Skeeter's character who battles Kendell's character in anti-gravity. Skeeter's hard-to-understand character wins and Skeeter quickly ends the story. Patrick interjects that the story is too predictable and says that Skeeter is then incinerated before ending the story.

At Nottingham's birthday party, among the fiery hazards that Skeeter is trying to avoid, his tongue is stung by a bee, making him hard to understand when competing with Kendall's new Broadway-themed hotel. Nottingham enjoys Skeeter's approach over the showy approach that Kendall had provided. A panic attack on a fiery birthday cake causes Skeeter to be "fired" by Nottingham. Afterward Jill, Patrick, and Bobbi are all upset as they learned where, which Skeeter had just discovered, the hotel was going to be built: on the property of the school which they all work and attend. Wendy believes he did not know, but is upset because he had inadvertently taught the children there are no such things as happy endings. When they attend the demolition to protest, Skeeter is inspired to prevent the school from being demolished. After finding Nottingham an alternative location, Skeeter takes Jill on a wild motorcycle ride which ends at the school and manages to stop the countdown. Sometime later, he marries Jill and founds a hotel named after his late father. Kendall and his scheming partner Aspen (Lucy Lawless) are demoted to Skeeter's hotel wait staff.

Coraline is a 2009 Oscar-nominated American stop-motion 3-D fantasy/horror film based on Neil Gaiman\'s 2002 novel of the same name. It was produced by Laika and distributed by Focus Features. Written and directed by Henry Selick, it was released widely in US theaters on February 6, 2009, after a world premiere at the Portland International Film Festival.

The film made $16.85 million during opening weekend, ranking third at the box office. As of September 2009, the film has grossed over $120 million worldwide.

\'\'THE CHOSEN\'\' is careful to disarm its audience right away. It begins with a baseball warmup, as a team of Jewish schoolboys in Brooklyn prepares for a game. Along comes the opposition - a team of Hasidic Jews wearing side curls, austere clothing, heavy glasses and very sour, unfriendly expressions.

The first team is as put off as the audience initially must be; Hasidic Jews don\'t turn up in very many movies, and as sympathetic screen characters they don\'t turn up at all. When Woody Allen puts a Hasid into a film, it\'s strictly as a sight gag and nothing more. But in \'\'The Chosen,\'\' it immediately becomes apparent that the Hasidic characters, even if they\'re laughed at, will also have to be reckoned with. \'\'They should stick to praying,\'\' mutters somebody from the first team - but the Hasidim win the game.

\'\'The Chosen,\'\' adapted from the novel by Chaim Potok, is about two Brooklyn Jewish families in the years immediately after World War II. The Malters are the more secular, a professor (Maximilian Schell) and his son, Reuven (Barry Miller), who meets Danny Saunders (Robby Benson) at the baseball game. Danny is the Hasidic son of Reb Saunders (Rod Steiger), and a stranger to most of the things that Reuven thinks familiar.

The growing friendship between the two boys is also the process by which Danny sees his first movie, wishes for his first pair of stylish eyeglasses, gets his first kiss (from a strange woman celebrating the news that the war is over) and begins dreaming of a life less cloistered than the one he is used to.

For Reuven, and for the viewer, Danny provides an introduction to the isolated world of the Hasidim, with its long silences and exceptionally strict protocol. Invited home by Danny to meet his father, Reuven finds himself assiduously grilled in matters of Jewish law and history.

Once he passes the Reb\'s inspection, though, Reuven is made welcome in the Saunders family, participating in celebrations and meals and group discussions. Throughout all this, Reuven also maintains his distance, attending college with a group of Jewish friends who are less sympathetic to the Hasidic way of life. \'\'Hasidim!\'\' one such friend snorts. \'\'Hasidim, but I don\'t believe \'em,\'\' jokes another.

\'\'The Chosen\'\' is partly about how these two sons of distinguished papas become friends and how their fathers\' subsequent ideological disagreement (Professor Malter\'s Zionism is anathema to Reb Saunders) interferes with the friendship. It also describes the Hasidic culture through Danny and his reactions to the secular world, and this is what it does best.

Robby Benson, who might not be expected to be the quiet surprise of a movie like this one, nevertheless makes a fine impression as Danny. He is eager without being overeager, and full of a gentle inquisitiveness that can\'t help but win the audience\'s sympathy. He is also, and this is the one weak spot in the performance, outfitted with side curls that change from shot to shot, sometimes looking tightly wound and sometimes looking droopy. Another hair problem in the film afflicts Mr. Steiger, who sports such a long and luxuriant beard that he seems to be speaking through a fluffy rug.

Mr. Steiger speaks with a great sonorousness and a slow, rolling delivery that is more numbing than prepossessing. His scenes tend to be a bit more overwhelming than is necessary, and Jeremy Paul Kagan, the director, intensifies this so greatly that he even, at one point, allows Mr. Steiger to dance in slow motion. Among the other principals, Mr. Miller and Mr. Schell are very good in their way, much more naturalistic and much more quietly convincing. But the performances are uniformly guarded and cool, and the story becomes less involving than it might be. The friendship between Danny and Reuven is presented carefully enough, but it doesn\'t have much warmth.

What \'\'The Chosen\'\' lacks in dramatic excitement, it tries hard to make up for in atmosphere. Anyone interested in the time and place of this story will find a wealth of period details in the movie, all of them noticeable but none of them instrusive. Mr. Kagan, who also directed \'\'Heroes\'\' and \'\'The Big Fix,\'\' locates and illustrates his story better than he tells it. Certainly, this is a gently evocative movie, with its glimpses of a strict and self-contained culture, and its memories of a time gone by.

\'\'The Chosen\'\' is rated PG (\'\'Parental Guidance Suggested\'\'). It contains brief but graphic footage of the liberation of concentration-camp inmates after World War II.

Amazing release we have here, most likely an instant classic. The quality on this one is almost below VHS, and the acting is just horrible. Ratings agree, and in my opinion, avoid this one.

The Skinny: Wong Jing and Keung Kwok-Man\'s routine cop thriller doesn\'t impress, but its unintentional laughs and lack of pretension make it an amusing and harmless way to pass the time. Simon Yam\'s Jedi Cop antics may be worth the price of admission. A lot better than Keung Kwok-Man\'s Bullet and Brain.

An even longer description: \"Simon Yam vs. Miu Kiu-Wai in Homoerotic Battle of Wits\". Add the bonus proposition, \"featuring Gundam in a Donnie Yen-inspired martial arts duel,\" and hopefully you\'ll get the picture. Despite being ridiculous and borderline trashy, Black Ransom is an entertaining if slight genre picture with the added bonus of being potentially hilarious. Going into Black Ransom expecting Milkyway-quality thrills would be asking waaaaay too much. But if you\'re looking for something that\'s cheesy, unpretentious and unintentionally amusing then Black Ransom has your back.
