Dear HBO or To Whom it May Concem:
As a resident of City of Izmir, Turkey, I was simply insulted and outraged when HBO accused Turkish millitary forces burned down Izmir on the episode of the serial 'The Pacific' on March 28.
In the episode Turkish army, that liberated Izmir (a Turkish city since 1300's) was accused of burning down the city during the conversation of the character 'Bob' with the Greek family. If a basic investigation was made before writing the scenario, it would be seen that Izmir was occupied by Greeks in 1919 and it was under Greeek occupation until it was liberated by Turkish forces in 1922 and it is naive to claim that Turkish army would burn down its own city.
I cannot imagine HBO becoming a tool for Greek propaganda. The reality is that retreating Greek army burned down Izmir and many villages in the Turkey's Aegean region while it was retreating.
Please read these reports related to this issue:
1- Greskovich Report written by the cheif of fire department (Paul Greskovich), hired by western originated insurance companies. The reports are kept in Admiral Bristol's records. He was not a Turk. He never worked for Ottoman government or new Turkish government.
2- Prestiss Report, written by Mark O. Prestiss. He was chairman of Near East Relief. This report also approves the incidents mentioned in the Greskovich report. This report is kept in Admiral Bristol's records as well.
3- Dumasmill Report, written by a French Admiral at 28 September 1922. There are more reports about the fires in Izmir, none of them mentions even implies the fires caused by the Turks. I call you to apologize to Turkish people on this terrible mistake.
Sincerely
